Seed, Hide and Seek 

Instalace Magdaleny Šimurdové Seed, Hide and Seek je citlivým site-specific zásahem do prostoru Galerie Edikula, který přetváří na osobitý ekosystém. Prostřednictvím subtilních objektů a promyšlené materiálové skladby vtahuje diváka do imaginativního světa, který si udržuje svou autonomii – žije vlastním tempem, nezávisle na přítomnosti člověka. Divák zůstává pouhým pozorovatelem, zatímco instalace plynule propojuje architektonický prostor s organickými formami. Šimurdová se ve své tvorbě soustředí na vztah mezi přírodními procesy a uměle vytvořenými strukturami. Východiskem jejích děl jsou mimolidské entity, organické formy a jejich vzájemná komunikace v prostoru. Inspiraci čerpá z přirozených ekosystémů, jako jsou například části stromů či lišejníky, jejichž schopnost prorůstat a transformovat se přenáší do materiálového a tvarového zpracování svých objektů. Tím propojuje svět živého s neživým, přičemž do popředí staví dualitu těchto sfér – přírody a lidského zásahu.

Výběr materiálů, hraje v dílech Magdaleny Šimurdové klíčovou roli. Nejedná se jen o fyzické elementy, ale i nositele významů, které utvářejí dialog mezi objekty a prostředím. Tento přístup vytváří organicko-umělý ekosystém, jenž obohacuje prostor o vlastní přítomnost. V kontextu Galerii Edikula, která svou architektonickou intimitou zdůrazňuje site-specific charakter výstavy, se tak Šimurdové dílo stává dynamickou součástí prostředí.

Instalace Seed, Hide and Seek nabízí nejen vizuální podněty, ale také prostor pro hlubší reflexi. Svět vytvořený v této instalaci otevírá otázky o lidském vztahu k přírodě a o naší pozici v širším ekosystému. Tento imaginativní environment si uchovává ambivalenci – na jedné straně dystopické pocity odloučení, na straně druhé naději a pocit sounáležitosti.

Autorka svou prací posouvá hranice současného výtvarného umění směrem k ekologickým, posthumanistickým a filosofickým tématům. Propojení přírodních procesů s lidskou tvorbou, důraz na materiálové vyjádření a snaha o reflexi prostoru činí její instalaci jedinečnou výpovědí o naší současnosti.

Výstavní projekt doprovází série krátkých kurátorských textů, jejichž autory jsou studenti předmětu Kurátorství, muzejní a galerijní praxe ze Semináře dějin umění FF MUNI. Studenti se v rámci tohoto projektu sami stávají kurátory a podílejí se na všech aspektech přípravy výstavy. Forma textů v pojetí kratšího komentáře je zároveň experimentem i edukačním prvkem. Nechává studenty individuálně navnímat instalaci a ukazuje, jak různé může být vnímání jednoho uměleckého díla či instalace.

Magdalena Šimurdová (*1996) v současnosti studuje magisterský program na Fakultě výtvarných umění VUT v Brně v Ateliéru Sochařství 2, pod vedením Mgr. Jiřího Příhody a doc. Mgr. Pavla Korbičky. V rámci svého studia absolvovala několik stáží, mimo jiné na Vysoké škole uměleckoprůmyslové v Praze, na Akademii výtvarných umění v Praze nebo v Kling & Bang Gallery v Reykjavíku. Svou tvorbu představila např. v rámci kolektivní výstavy The shape of intimacy, Bývalá Káznice, Brno 2023, v (A)VOID Gallery Praha, kolektivním projektem Knit a bit 2023 nebo v Galerii mladých, Brno, výstavou The most cultivated public toilet, 2023.

Magdalena Šimurdová's installation Seed, Hide and Seek is a sensitive site-specific intervention into the space of Edikula Gallery, which she transforms into a distinctive ecosystem. Through subtle objects and thoughtful material composition, she draws the viewer into an imaginative world that maintains its autonomy - it lives at its own pace, independent of human presence. The viewer remains a mere observer, while the installation seamlessly connects architectural space with organic forms. Šimurdová's work focuses on the relationship between natural processes and man-made structures. The starting point of her works are non-human entities, organic forms and their mutual communication in space. She draws inspiration from natural ecosystems, such as tree parts or lichens, whose ability to grow and transform is transferred into the material and shape of her objects. In doing so, she connects the world of the living with the inanimate, foregrounding the duality of these spheres - nature and human intervention.

The choice of materials plays a key role in Magdalena Šimurdová's works. These are not only physical elements, but also carriers of meanings that shape the dialogue between objects and the environment. This approach creates an organic-artificial ecosystem that enriches the space with its own presence. In the context of the Edikula Gallery, whose architectural intimacy emphasizes the site-specific nature of the exhibition, Šimurdová's work thus becomes a dynamic part of the environment.

The Seed, Hide and Seek installation offers not only visual stimuli, but also space for deeper reflection. The world created in this installation raises questions about the human relationship to nature and our position in the wider ecosystem. This imaginative environment retains an ambivalence - on the one hand, dystopian feelings of disconnection, on the other, hope and a sense of belonging.

The artist's work pushes the boundaries of contemporary art towards ecological, post-humanist and philosophical themes. The connection between natural processes and human creation, the emphasis on material expression and the attempt to reflect on space make her installation a unique statement about our present.

The exhibition project is accompanied by a series of short curatorial texts written by students of the Curatorial, Museum and Gallery Practice course from the Art History Seminar at the Faculty of Arts, MUNI. The students themselves become curators in this project and participate in all aspects of the exhibition preparation. The form of the texts in the concept of a shorter commentary is both an experiment and an educational element. It allows the students to perceive the installation individually and shows how different the perception of one artwork or installation can be.

Magdalena Šimurdová (*1996) is currently studying for her Master's degree at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Brno University of Technology in Brno in the Studio of Sculpture 2, under the supervision of Mgr. Jiří Příhoda and doc. Mgr. Pavel Korbička. During her studies she completed several internships, among others at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague, the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and Kling & Bang Gallery in Reykjavik. She has presented her work, for example, in the collective exhibition The shape of intimacy, Bývalá Káznice, Brno 2023, in (A)VOID Gallery Prague, with the collective project Knit a bit 2023 or in the Young Gallery, Brno, with the exhibition The most cultivated public toilet, 2023.
